Hey there everyone!
My name is Mama Katie. I’m a 32 year old mother, wife, sister, aunt, daughter, friend, and police officer. I grew up in a tiny town (population 220) at the base of Mount Adams in Washington on a broke family ranch. At a young age my parents separated and eventually divorced. They eventually remarried which meant moving from tiny town no where Washington to big city Boise Idaho. Talk about a shock to the system. That move eventually led to another move to small town Missouri. Leaving all my family and friends behind and moving half way across the country.
I was a ‘Jack of all Trades Master of None’ through high school. I ran track, marched in the marching band, sang in musicals, cheerleader, member of FFA, competed on FFA contest teams, worked multiple jobs, and more. When I graduated I planned to go to college and become an FFA Advisor, aka the shop teacher. I started school at a community college and decided to enlist in the Army National Guard. I ended up with a medical discharge and never truly got to serve our beautiful county in the manner I intended. I returned to school and I graduated with an associates degree in agriculture and transferred to a university. Eventually I dropped out to follow the love of my life back to his home town.
From there I found myself working in sales selling John Deere tractors and not living the life I imagined I would. I was lost in my career, what was the love of my life decided I was not the love of his and then decided later he was wrong and we got back together (I’ll share about that another time). I eventually found myself in Law Enforcement filling the void I had been feeling for such a long time after being discharged from the military.
After six years of trying to have a baby with my now wonderful and amazing husband we found out I physically would never be able to conceive a child. My fallopian tubes needed removed. Which in turn lead to IVF (In Vetro Fertilization) treatments and over $60,000.00 being spent trying to conceive a child. I am proud to say after the the emotionally, physically, and mentally draining experience I am now the mother to the most perfect little boy who just turned one.
Now I’m working to find ways to balance work and home life and have a desire to educate and share my experiences being a working mother, going through IVF, and being a wife working in a Law Enforcement career.
What better way to do that than through a blog?
